Sometimes in a terrible movie a performance jumps out at you that seems to be from some other better movie! If you haven’t seen The Black Dahlia yet please do rent it as you will be treated to quite a show. It’s certainly not the best movie in the world, and the lead performances by Hilary Swank, Josh Hartnett, and Aaron Eckhart are leaden to say the least, but the film is blessed with the poptrashy genius of Brian DePalma’s direction, great cinematography, awesome production and costume design, and a killer score by Mark Isham. But the greatest pleasure of all to be found in The Black Dahlia is the performance of Mia Kirshner, a semi successfull television actress, who delivers a performance so haunting, so touching, so eery and so gentle that it will stay with you for days even after the plot of The Black Dahlia (which is perhaps its greatest failure) has long gone the way of the dodo.
So this is my audio for your consideration ad for Mia Kirshner to at least be considered for a Best Supporting Actress nomination at this years Academy Awards. Heaven knows she won’t even be nominated but a guy can dream can’t he? So please accept this short bonus episode of Radio Allegro and email it to all your academy friends who are in the know and can do something about it!
